| This report is another edition in a series of regular fisheries survey reports, which have been undertaken every year since the early 1990s. In 2008, ABARE completed surveys of the eastern tuna and billfish fishery and the southern and eastern scalefish and shark fishery. This report contains estimates of the financial and economic performance of each fishery based on the data collected in these surveys. ABARE survey information is used by fisheries policy makers, managers, researchers and the fishing industry. The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority use the information to monitor the performance of Commonwealth fisheries, and the impact of their management policies. As survey findings are made publicly available, the fishing industry can also independently assess their performance and the impact of management policies. Funding for ABARE’s fisheries surveys reports is provided by the Fisheries Resources Research Fund. |
