This project was initially coordinated by Lili Pechey from ABARE’s land and water research area. The Australian part of the report is broadly an update of the Stocktake of the Australian Agriculture and Food Sector undertaken by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in 2005. Dr Terry Sheales was the research director of that stocktake and, as ABARE’s Chief Commodity Analyst, coordinated the update of the material presented here. ABARE commodity and survey analysts — Stephanie Szakiel, John Hogan and Caroline Levantis in particular — were responsible for researching the new material.

The report was designed and managed by ABARE’s senior graphic designer, Julie Easton, with graphics prepared by Gail Condy, typesetting by Julie Stalker and editing by Andrew Wright. Printing was by National Capital Printing in Canberra.

The New Zealand contribution to the report was compiled by Richard Lynch, Peter Gardiner, Richard Wallace, Bridget Hamilton-Seymour, Rebecca Harold, Kay Cao and Rod Forbes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Policy Group. Much of the material on policy reform was drawn from a paper presented in Canada in 2006 by Ralph Lattimore, Consulting Economist, Hope, New Zealand.
